A Nation’s Shame. A Man’s Fight. A Call to Action.
Jaco Pretorius (48) is a South African man of faith, a devoted friend, and a fighter. He has been catastrophically failed by the very public healthcare system meant to protect him. What began as a routine dental issue — a simple gum abscess — was diagnosed but mistreated for months. By the time critical stages hit, Jaco was facing a life-threatening squamous cell carcinoma that had already broken through his cheek.
Despite the odds, Jaco still has a real chance to live — thanks to the care of a world-class multidisciplinary team at Cintocare Hospital in Pretoria, specializing in complex head and neck cancer surgery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation.
But survival comes at a cost.
The total required for surgery, treatment, and reconstruction is R1.65 million (around USD $91,937.32 / EUR €79,602.82).
This is more than a medical crisis. It’s a statement on the dignity of every human life — and a chance for all of us to say: “Jaco matters! Every South African matters!”
